Amsterdam UMC scientist Christa Boer will become the new dean of the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences) as of September 1. She succeeds Agneta Fischer, who is resigning the deanship after five years. Fischer will retire next year.

She was university (lead) professor there and from 2014 to 2018 was professor of perioperative research, that is, research on preoperative care and risk assessment of patients, care during surgery and aftercare. Today, she is professor of medical education at the VU. Since 2018, she is also vice dean of education of the Faculty of Medicine at VU and leads the Doctoral School of Amsterdam UMC.

Productive

Boer is a hard-working and productive administrator, if people in her network are to be believed. ‘She is one of the most successful managers I have ever met,’ says one of them. ‘In one year, she produces more tangible and relevant output than others do in five years. She is versatile, gives positive energy, is productive, innovative, fast and has great analytical, creative and social intelligence.’ Another says she is a ‘goal-oriented scientist with a great understanding of big pharma’. The faculty will be able to experience it all in four months. Christa Boer has been appointed for four years.
